Museum Accreditation Scheme

The new minimum standard for museums, the Museum Accreditation Scheme, was launched by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) on Wednesday 17 November 2004.
Museums that are currently Registered will be invited to apply for the MAS over the next five years (2005-2009). In the first year, 2005, museums with Designated collections, museums within the South East Renaissance in the Regions Hub and museums who participated in the 2003 Museum Standard pilot were invited to apply. To read more about the pilot please read the paper, Developing the New Standard. Museums not currently in the Registration scheme can apply for the Museum Accreditation Scheme at any time, but are required to contact MLA South East to discuss an appropriate timetable for application.

Museums will be contacted with information on the timetable for application and the year one and year two timetables are available to download as well as a Museum Accreditation Briefing which provides more details on the new scheme.

For more information about the Museum Accreditation Scheme, please contact Guy Purdey, email: Guy.Purdey@mlasoutheast.org.uk.
