The national £1 million second phase of the Museums and Galleries in Education programme (MGEP2) ran from October 2002 to March 2004. The Department for Education and Skills (DfES) wanted to bring museums, galleries and schools together to develop creative ways of delivering the National Curriculum.
In the South East, MLA South East supported 20 museums and galleries in 7 MGEP2 projects across the region – forming new partnerships and developing new school audiences. The projects used museum collections to raise pupils' standards of achievement by supporting an enriched curriculum. South East MGEP2 projects demonstrate model value for other museums wanting to offer cultural entitlement to schools. Please view the case studies through the links on the right to learn more.
The project has been evaluated on a national scale by the Centre for Education & Industry at the University of Warwick. MLA South East has also produced a report on what they learned from the project managers on how to better manage umbrella projects of this type (available from the right of the screen).
