MLA South East works to promote and support the achievement of professional, service and other standards throughout the region. It also promotes excellence in the preservation, management and use of the region's cultural and natural resources.
MLA South East is working to implement the South East Stewardship Strategy Action Plan 2005 until 2008. Built on a foundation of research carried out by MLA South East since its establishment in 2002, the South East Stewardship Strategy calls for:
- partnership and collaboration to support the development of shared storage solutions for the South East,
- the development of evidence based Stewardship advocacy and
- promoting the use and development of MLA’s Benchmarks in Collection Care as a standards tool for assessing Stewardship performance
MLA South East is also working towards the shared national objective to promote and support data collection for MICHAEL, the Multilingual Inventory of Cultural Heritage in Europe, initially with the support of museums holding designated collections to allow increased online access to collections.
MLA South East will also continue to support the establishment and development of Subject Specialist Networks, to inform long-term strategic collections development and the sharing of best practice.
