Setting the Pace

The MLA Partnership is leading an unprecedented programme of five strands of activity as part of the 2012 Games - setting the pace for the cultural sector. In 2007 we published a prospectus setting out our vision for the contribution of museums, libraries and archives to the 2012 Games and for the legacy beyond 2012. 'Setting the Pace' is the product of extensive consultation with our sector, forming five exciting projects to have a transformational impact on our sector.

International Exhibitions Programme
To tell 'Stories of the World' through the re-interpretation of UK collections involving international curators and local communities, delivered through a partnership project of museum and gallery exhibitions in the years leading up to 2012.

The People's Record
Capturing people's life stories in London and across the UK and their engagement with the Cultural Olympiad and the 2012 Games.

The Record
Setting a new standard for a comprehensive Games archive and enabling this rich legacy to be used to inform and inspire.

Literature and Storytelling
Inspiring young people by celebrating 'London and the UK welcoming the world' with the written and spoken word.

Information Hubs
Showcasing the cultural wealth of London and the regions to an international audience.

Our ambition is that our sector's engagement with the 2012 Games through 'Setting the Pace' will lead to a transofrmation in the way people experience the inspiration, learning and creativity that museum, library and archive collections generate. Although there is still a long way to go, amd much work to be done, museums, libraries and archives are already responding to the oppportunities presented by the 2012 Games.
