- Culture Secretary Andy Burnham today announced that Andrew Motion has been appointed as the new Chair of the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA). Professor Motion takes up his new position from today for a period of four years.

- Celebrating the launch of the Cultural Olympiad

- The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) has set up a database to record activities for the launch weekend of the Cultural Olympiad on 26-28 September. All types of cultural and heritage activities can log their details – and they do not have to be linked to sporting themes. The main concept is to ‘Open up’, and some organisations are using light in interesting and creative ways.
