The vision for the year is to create a powerful national focus of opportunities and activities, so that children, families and adult learners understand the benefits that reading – for pleasure and for purpose – can bring to change their lives for the better, both now and in the future.
The National Year of Reading 2008 campaign is being led by the National Literacy Trust and The Reading Agency on behalf of the Department for Children, Schools and Families. Local authorities have been asked to nominate a coordinator for the year and planning for the year will take place between January and March 2008. Delivery of the year will start in April 2008 and last until December 2008.
