Currently, we are part of the wider MLA Partnership with the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) and the eight other regional agencies.
Together we work to improve people's lives by building knowledge, supporting learning, inspiring creativity and celebrating identity. The Partnership acts collectively for the benefit of the sector and the public, leading the transformation of museums, libraries and archives for the future.
The MLA Partnership is to be replaced by a single national agency by April 2009, by which time MLA South East and the other eight regional agencies will have ceased operations.
During this transitional year, MLA South East and the eight other regional agencies are contributing to the delivery of MLA’s Corporate Plan for 2008-2011 by focussing their activities on MLA’s three strategic priorities:
- Learning and skills – we will work with the sector to increase opportunities for learners to progress and achieve their creativity and unlock their potential.
- Communities – we will ensure museums, libraries and archives are inclusive and support cohesive communities, particularly in their work with young people.
- Excellence – we will strengthen capacity in the sector to innovate and continually improve across workforce, collections, services, funding and partnerships. We will also make the MLA an excellent and efficient organisation.
The MLA South East Business Plan for 2008-09 (here) is built around these three national strategic priorities and the need to plan for the transfer of many of our activities to other bodies and manage our own closure.
